Ruth + Stefan | Wedding

After a very busy two weeks, I am so excited to blog this very special couple who married September 3 in Diessenhofen at the Gasthaus Schupfen. I wasn’t anticipating rain, but I was prepared for it even though not a drop fell the entire day. The weather was amazing actually. Light and love everywhere.

Stefan waited patiently for his “first look” with Ruth beneath the sun-soaked leaves at romantic Schloss Hegi. Ruth looked so gorgeous even I was nervous for him. I actually had butterflies in my stomach. I kept thinking, “Why am I so excited???” Then I knew. I’m always reminded of my own marriage jitters and how beautiful the whole process is.

Swiss folk were floating in their tubes and rafts, watching with curious eyes at the current took them by, while Stefan and his beautiful lady Ruth married on a covered platform overlooking the River Rhein. I enjoyed the wedding so.darn.much. I didn’t want it to be over.

Ruth and Stefan, may your years be full to the brim with love for life and one another. Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a tremendous day.

Jonathan + Manuela | Part Two

Weeping willows by the River Rhein, perfect high 70’s weather with a sunshine and a light breeze… laughter and happy tears… sacred love…all in one glorious day. Manuela was a relaxed and elegant bride from the first application of eyeliner to the bouquet-toss at the reception. They had no idea what was planned for the day after the ceremony, so it was exciting to watch them see what their maid of honor and best man had planned. In the late afternoon, we all piled in for boat ride up the Rhein with the entire wedding party. It relaxing and certainly enjoyable for me, someone who loves anything to do with water. I had to remind myself that I was actually working!

We had special permission to shoot the bride and grooms’ romantic shots in what I thought looked like a secret garden tucked away in the city of Schaffhausen. The light was perfect, and so were my lovely subjects, so in turn the photos are some of my favorites from the entire day.

Jonathan and Manuela, may you both live a rich, love-filled life that grows deeper each day together. Thank you for letting us be a part of such a momentous day.

Manuela + Jonathan | Part One

What a joy to see someone commit to one another after being together for 7 years! J&M celebrated their love and said “I do” on paper last Friday at the romantic Schlosspark in Andelfingen. It was a super quick session with ideal weather and a small gathering of family and friends. While I was shooting, we were even serenaded by another private parties’ brass band about 25 meters away which was special and romantic. There is something sweet and simple about the quietness of these images, and I am very much looking forward to photographing these two again at their big wedding next month. It will take place in an adorable chapel at Insel Rheinau alongside the river Rhein.

Valentina + Michael | Part Two

I’ve tried beginning this blog over and over, and I’ve just now realized why I can’t think of the right few sentences because I’m thinking in pictures! It makes perfect sense… this wedding was truly beautiful, from beginning to end. My favorite thing about it was the simplicity even though it took place in an extremely ornate place.

After Valentina and Michael came to me about shooting their wedding at the astounding cathedral at the St. Urban Kloster, I was set on doing everything in my power to not only capture them as a couple but to use the beauty of that place as emphasis. We had such a good time.  I even brought out my new/old fuji instax camera and loved every minute of instant gratification that comes with a “polaroid” type camera.

The evening meal took place at one of the oldest hotels in Switzerland, The Hotel Krone Solothurn and the food was simply perfect. Too bad I forgot to photograph the most amazing filet mignon I’ve tasted in my life.

Valentina & Michael, you are a beautiful couple and we wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you for letting us be part of your wedding day.

I think it’s so cool that people who marry in Switzerland (myself included) often have two weddings: first, the civil/legal wedding where documents are signed and nerves are calmed and second, the pretty party with the dress, the church, the written vows, or in some cases the ringing of cow bells, and the fun! Michael & Valentina were focused on the most important thing yesterday for their “engagement session”, each other. (They technically still qualified for that title even though their “civil wedding” was an hour after our shoot.) We had a lot of fun on the historic old town of Olten, Switzerland, and I very much look forward to their wedding in the St. Urban Monastery this coming weekend.

Beat + Sonja | Wedding

2011 is proving to be an exciting year for my photography-life (a new word inspired by words like love-life and spiritual-life, etc.) Sonja and Beat’s wedding was especially lovely on so many levels. What I mean is the power of the bond between these two people made it obvious that capturing their affections on camera would be no problem.  I loved watching the love and respect they both had for their parents while the day progressed, both cherishable and rare gifts. Sonja was all smiles while Beat had a stomach full of butterflies.

They met on a sailboat, and last Saturday in the small mountain town of Bergün, Beat & Sonja committed their love to one another in front of a quaint gathering of friends and family. The apero and dinner took place at the historic “Jugendstil” hotel Kurhaus Bergün. (Art Nouveau in English) I’ve said many times that I am a perpetual lover of weddings, and once again I was blessed to walk away from the wedding feeling like I’ve taken a piece of that Love home with me.

I should also note that this first image design was inspired by the talented Stephanie Williams of Stephanie Williams Photography, specifically her RUCHE Spring lookbook.

Rebecca | Bridal

These are just a few of my favorite photos from my session with radiant Rebecca! I just love bridal shoots. In my experience, they’re always so relaxed and fun because what woman doesn’t feel gorgeous standing in front of the camera in a glamorous wedding gown? Rebecca was no exception. I wasn’t able to be there for her wedding, so fortunately we could do a golden-hour session a few months later.

Mitch + Brittany | Wedding

Being a part of Brittany and Mitchs’ wedding day stirred up many different things within. First, their sweet love reminded me of my husband (always does) but not only that, they were relaxed and gathered so I was relaxed and gathered. Most wedding photographers can tell you that such is a rare occurrence, but my lovely assistant and I just enjoyed their day so much than we had planned.
Don’t get me wrong, I love weddings. I am a perpetual lover of weddings. But shooting a wedding is hard work, so it is tremendous to walk away from a wedding feeling like I’ve taken a piece of that Love home with me. While celebrating and documenting with Brittany and Mitch on June 5, this was certainly the case. They departed from the reception in a vintage white limo and honeymooned on a beach close to Cancun, Mexico.
