Timon + Ursula | Engagement

I had the privilege of shooting my first couple of 2012! Timon & Ursula, you two look radiant together and bring so much life to those around you. Your obvious love for each other will keep you young and silly all through the wrinkles. I hope you enjoy these shots as much as I do!

Beverly + Kalen | Dothan, Alabama Engagement Photography

Alabama is a great place to enjoy crazy 65 degree weather and golden trees in December. It was a beautiful warmish day at Landmark Park with Kalen and Beverly as I shot their engagement photos and got to know them a little better as a couple. I am so happy to share this photos with you.

It’s such a funny and sweet story of how Kalen proposed to Beverly by a river in the woods under a make-shift bamboo gazeebo. He totally had her fooled. She suspected he may propose, but Kalen somehow tricked her into thinking he was just doing something “special” for her before leaving for his masters degree in a city four hours away. After a picnic lunch and an hour or so in the woods, he got the ring out of the cooler and asked her the big question. I’m so happy she said yes because just look at this love. Radiant.

Their wedding will take place next October and will be shot by the lovely Chelsea and Travis of Crazy Love Studios here at Maria’s Vineyard in Dothan. Beverly and Kalen, thank you both for letting me get a glimpse into your life and your story together. My hope is that your friendship and love for each other will continually deepen through laughter and the beauty you encounter in this world. Shootings you was a real treat.

Jonathan + Manuela | Part Two

Weeping willows by the River Rhein, perfect high 70’s weather with a sunshine and a light breeze… laughter and happy tears… sacred love…all in one glorious day. Manuela was a relaxed and elegant bride from the first application of eyeliner to the bouquet-toss at the reception. They had no idea what was planned for the day after the ceremony, so it was exciting to watch them see what their maid of honor and best man had planned. In the late afternoon, we all piled in for boat ride up the Rhein with the entire wedding party. It relaxing and certainly enjoyable for me, someone who loves anything to do with water. I had to remind myself that I was actually working!

We had special permission to shoot the bride and grooms’ romantic shots in what I thought looked like a secret garden tucked away in the city of Schaffhausen. The light was perfect, and so were my lovely subjects, so in turn the photos are some of my favorites from the entire day.

Jonathan and Manuela, may you both live a rich, love-filled life that grows deeper each day together. Thank you for letting us be a part of such a momentous day.

Manuela + Jonathan | Part One

What a joy to see someone commit to one another after being together for 7 years! J&M celebrated their love and said “I do” on paper last Friday at the romantic Schlosspark in Andelfingen. It was a super quick session with ideal weather and a small gathering of family and friends. While I was shooting, we were even serenaded by another private parties’ brass band about 25 meters away which was special and romantic. There is something sweet and simple about the quietness of these images, and I am very much looking forward to photographing these two again at their big wedding next month. It will take place in an adorable chapel at Insel Rheinau alongside the river Rhein.

Valentina + Michael | Part Two

I’ve tried beginning this blog over and over, and I’ve just now realized why I can’t think of the right few sentences because I’m thinking in pictures! It makes perfect sense… this wedding was truly beautiful, from beginning to end. My favorite thing about it was the simplicity even though it took place in an extremely ornate place.

After Valentina and Michael came to me about shooting their wedding at the astounding cathedral at the St. Urban Kloster, I was set on doing everything in my power to not only capture them as a couple but to use the beauty of that place as emphasis. We had such a good time.  I even brought out my new/old fuji instax camera and loved every minute of instant gratification that comes with a “polaroid” type camera.

The evening meal took place at one of the oldest hotels in Switzerland, The Hotel Krone Solothurn and the food was simply perfect. Too bad I forgot to photograph the most amazing filet mignon I’ve tasted in my life.

Valentina & Michael, you are a beautiful couple and we wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you for letting us be part of your wedding day.

Valentina + Michael | Part One

I think it’s so cool that people who marry in Switzerland (myself included) often have two weddings: first, the civil/legal wedding where documents are signed and nerves are calmed and second, the pretty party with the dress, the church, the written vows, or in some cases the ringing of cow bells, and the fun! Michael & Valentina were focused on the most important thing yesterday for their “engagement session”, each other. (They technically still qualified for that title even though their “civil wedding” was an hour after our shoot.) We had a lot of fun on the historic old town of Olten, Switzerland, and I very much look forward to their wedding in the St. Urban Monastery this coming weekend.

I haven’t seen swan babies since I was a little girl, but these brave little ducklings ventured out into the lake right as we were walking on a bridge at the Pfäffikersee. Quite appropriate scenery for a family and children photo-session, I’d agree. Everything about the setting fit perfectly with this family. The dreamy sun made our afternoon session very enjoyable while they played and laughed in the tall grass along the water. I’m pretty sure I was a mere tree in the background as far as the kids were concerned. They were very expressive and excited about everything going on around them, so I was able to steal mom and dad away for a few romance shots in the amber light. Afterall, who wouldn’t want to cuddle up and show some love near a lake with baby swans?

Beat + Sonja | Pure Romance

This couple is beyond words, and so was this photo session. Their adoration for each other made my job very easy as we embarked into temperatures that never rose above 0 degrees Celsius. These two were troppers! My fingers were freezing off, yet they kept smiling and kissing and charming the camera. It is with great joy that I announce my accompaniment to their wedding in Bergün in two weeks.

Caleb + Rebecca | Pure Romance

“Oh on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
so soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
the smiles that win, the tints that glow
but tell of days in goodness spent,
a mind at peace with all below,
a heart whose love is innocent!”
– Lord Byron

The light and the heat were both boiling the sweat on our brows, but I still couldn’t help but feel amorous after working with these two. I don’t mind this Alabama heat as long as I can escape to some AC after a hard few hours with the sun blazing. What blows me away is when a couple is trump enough to withstand it and still look glamorous. These photos look like they were taken somewhere in California. Caleb and Rebecca had such a sweet presence and I’m thrilled they allowed me to come into their life for a couple of hours and capture some of that sweet intimacy you share with each other.

Donat + Myriam | Pure Romance

The weather finally warmed up enough for me to shoot outside in these vibrant spring colors. It was very eye-pleasing to see Myriam and Donat dressed in very Spring-like gentle pastels for their engagement session, and we drove to a nice spot in Stein am Rhine to shoot near the river at sundown. The monk in charge was kind enough to let us shoot some photos on the Kloster (monastery) grounds which seemed to have exploded with blooming trees and flowers. Myriam and Donat have a love story very similar to me and my husband’s, and it was sweet to see them interact together with a rare gentleness. Their love truly stands out. Plus, the pictures turned out amazing which I can attribute only to their willingness to be themselves and have fun.
